A "fact" is a "fact". It can be related to any number of "dimensions" and when a "fact" is "bad" it is a "bug", the cause of which is found and eliminated. That's simply how data is handled in any concern.
Thanks to Vigil for trying to be the "debugger" of the media.

Dear Venkat,

Congratulations!

I am very happy to see your articles on your thevigil.in. blog.

I was expecting such a thing from you long before.

I appreciate and strongly support your views on the current status of television news channels. News must be disseminated in a non-biased manner, for the masses. It should not serve certain vested interests. Hope your comments continue to enlighten us.

Regards,
M Bagavathi

No no. The guys at India TV clearly read Rosaiah's body language. But I guess they thought that Rosaiah was sad thinking, how with YSR being safe, he had lost all chance of becoming the next CM of AP.

i can't stop laughing at this commentary and am actually splitting at the sides. how well do you think the real world out there knows how much of an organised, institutionalised, irrevocable sham the media, especially television news, is? real well, i hope, for their own good. maybe what you watched as news was actually fictional entertainment in both India TV and Times Now and you didnt notice the logo at the right up end that said so haha!!:)

Dear Venkat
I love what you've written.
I hate what you've written.
I love it for the way it holds a sharp pin, representing our collective conscience, and allows the bubble of hype to settle on its point...almost like bombast being hoist with its own petard.
I hate it for showing us, in all its ugliness, the way the media is today, because, at the end of the day, the fourth estate isn't an island; it is us, the people, and is cast from the same mould that makes us, collectively what we are. So, in essence, you're holding a mirror to society, and i don't like what i see, for that face wears a smile that's false, and all the make-up in the world can't hide the tell tale ravages of our consumptive culture.
Coming back to this post, I can't help feeling that we deserve the media we get. Just consider how hype has now become currency; how we prefer to sugarcoat reality, watch 'fixed' game shows, have no qualms about sending a million SMSes to vote for a talent show participant from 'our' region, sit glued to a 'fake' swayamvar, and shed tears with the protagonists of stage managed 'contests'. We are also guilty of posturing, of beating our breasts in public, of shouting louder than the joneses next door, and our possessions have come to speak for us: in shrill, fake-accented tones that proclaim our arrival.
Aggro is the new mantra, even at our workplaces, and abrasiveness is confused as assertiveness; and we've discovered that he who shouts loudest gets believed. We have not just become inured to falsehood and corruption, we have often been agents, albeit passive, of that degeneration.
We have been well trained to suspend disbelief, in varying doses; for 30 seconds by advertisers, for 30 minutes by TV serial producers, and for 3 hours by our movie moguls. How long do you think, before the tipping point is reached, and this state of wilful suspension becomes the new reality?
In Hinduism, there is a concept of 'mahamaya', with one interpretation that reveals how it can both bind us in a delusionary state, and also has the power to excise the cataract dispel the blindness.
Somehow I can't help but feel that the media, today, has that power, and stands at the cusp of choosing which role it wishes to play.

In the name of journalistic freedom India TV seems to break, bend, simply ignore the rules and gets away easy. Its not enough that they indulge in irresponsible and thoughtless reporting, once exposed they brush it off with a nonchalance which according to me is the malaise afflicting the India Broadcast media. There is no accountability whatsoever for misusing their crucial and sensitive role as the fourth pillar of society. There are no penalties or punishment for cheating the viewer. Infact there is an inherent arrogance and defiance…a thumbing of the nose really, reflected in every false piece of information or concocted story that continues to be aired.
Its time for forums like Vigil to question and hold such erring journalists and organizations responsible.
Best

The Vigil is a welcome relief amidst cacophony of news channels- that simply compound the confusion. Vigil was long overdue.

No government worth its name would ever be able to reign in these channels going bonkers. Only some truly independent journalists like have guts and gumption to act as a watch dog of media.

I am sure that hundreds of people like me will love to log on to The Vigil not only to read such brilliant critical writings but to also use this as a platform to air their frustration with the media.

Please count me in.
